Farming in Community Conference

April 9, 2016 @ 9:30 am - 8:00 pm

This is a networking event and the first of what will be a series of ongoing discussions and events regarding farm-based communities and community-based farming in the Northeast. The goal of this event is to bring together farmers, aspiring farmers, community-experienced folks and community-seekers to connect and discuss viable community-based farming models.

  • Are you a land-less farmer (or wanna-be farmer) who is eager to take the plunge into full-time farming but don’t have the resources to do it alone?
  • Are you a firm believer in community living, who seeks others to live in community with?
  • Are you a farmer considering bringing other self-driven farmers onto your farm to live and work?
  • Are you a farmer without a retirement/succession plan, but wish to keep your land in production?
  • Are you a landowner considering shifting ownership of your land to a non-profit/community-based organization?
  • Are you looking for alternative ways to fund community/farm projects that don’t include mountains of debt?
  • Would you like to live in an inter-generational ecovillage where you can plant thousands of trees that your grandchildren will some day enjoy?
  • Do you aspire to be involved with large scale regenerative farming, permaculture, agroforestry, silvopasture, agritourism, farm-based education, etc, but lack the resources to do it on your own?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, this event is for you!!

So, let’s get this discussion going. Let’s make connections and build a regional network. Let’s build a movement of solidarity and mutual aid among existing (and aspiring) farm-based communities across the Northeast. There will be a table for you to display information about your project or venture, as well as regional breakout sessions to connect w/ people from your region.

Lunch will be potluck style. Please bring a dish. There will be no kitchen access, so please bring any plates/bowls/cups/utensils that you will want to use. Lodging for the night is available by contacting Sirius directly. Questions/comments/RSVP can be send to farmingincommunity@gmail.com. Donations of $10-$20 welcome to cover event costs. Please contact us if you feel inspired to volunteer the day of the event. Thanks!
