CRWC: Scouting For Invasives

July 24, 2013

Join CRWC as we seek the newest invasive plant species that threatenn to displace native plants in our local ecosystems. Early Detection is the key to preservation.

CRWC is partnering with the Mill River Greenway Initiative and Grow Food Northampton to survey a portion of the Mill River area for any early detection invasive species. Meet at the Florence Organic Garden, lower Meadow St, Florence and we’ll explore to see if (and hopeefully not find) any of these unwanted visitors along the Mill River. Take Route 9 West into the village of Florence, through two traffic lights, then turn left at the traffic island/Lilly Library onto Park Street. Take an immediate right (around the library) onto Meadow Street. The Florence Organic Garden is at 1440 Meadow Street, less than half a mile. Turn left into the driveway, then turn right to parallel park along “Park Lane” within the garden.

This is the first of what we hope will be a regular effort for the watershed. This walk along the river will be a good chance to acquaint oneself with these plants and how to report a find.

If you wish to join the scouting party, contact Keith at AmeriCCorps@ctriver.org or 413-7722-2020 x2206.
