The Business of Aquaculture: Looking at the Bottom Line

July 20, 2013 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Presented by Dr. Andy Danylchuk and Dr. David Damery, Department of Environmental Conservation, University of Massachusetts Amherst.

The focus of our workshop will provide an overview of the business of aquaculture, including mission statement (why are you growing fish?), capital investment, supply chain, operating costs, and marketing and sales.  We will use New England as a case study and review choices that potential aquaculture entrepreneurs will need to make when attempting to meet the triple bottom line of environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Participants completing the workshop will:

1)   understand the operational and economic bottlenecks associated with aquaculture development;

2)   examine the financial elements necessary to determine the economic viability of aquaculture in New England;

3)   gain an appreciation for the impact of risk at various stages in the aquaculture business system.

Pre-registration is required. To register, send an email to:  chollingsworth@umass.edu by July 8.
