NEPM: Reed Farm Poultry

Kaliis, Monte, and Jacob visit Reed Farm in Sunderland, where farmers Kat Chang and Peter Laznicka teach them about: 

  • Their humane methods for raising and processing chickens (once the weather warms, the older ones go outside on pasture)
  • Why their state (and soon federally) licensed poultry processing facility is so important. It’s the only one in the region! Because of them, it’s much easier for other local farms to raise chickens, ducks, and more to supply us with local meat.
  • Closing the nutrient loop by composting bedding and processing waste on the farm. Compost hopefully for sale soon!
