Kestrel Land Trust April Outings: Exploring Vernal Pools

April 9, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Spring seems to be coming early this year: The warm, wet nights have gotten the frogs and salmanders moving on their way to the vernal pools for their annual breeding season. On Saturday,April 9, from 1 pm to 3 pm, we’re pleased to again have educator Brandon Abbott show us the mysteries of the vernal pool in Northampton. A great family event, Brandon will bring equipment for gathering and inspecting fairy shrimp, frog eggs, and other creatures up close!

If you can’t make that outing, you’ll have a second chance. On April 23 from 1 pm to 3 pm, come learn about the next phase when we visit vernal pools in Hadley to look for tadpoles and salamander larvae. UMass Environmental Conservatio Professor Scott Jackson specializes in amphibians and vernals pools, and will be our guide to the later phase of the vernal pool season.

Each outing is limited to 20 participants: RSVP required to learn meeting locations. Email office@kestreltrust.org.

This even is open to the public: Just sign up so we know you’re coming! (Free or pay what you wish to help support our programs.)

Please Note: RSVPs for weekend outings MUST be received before 5 pm on the Friday prior to the outing. Thank you!
